I haven’t even heard of Black Friday – is it relevant to Hong Kong?
Yes, believe it or not, these deals aren’t just available to our American friends. Retailers in our own backyard are increasingly joining in on the fun and launching their own Black Friday sales before Christmas. Which is just perfect for amassing Christmas gifts for family and friends, or even just a little treat for yourself.
When is Black Friday?
Black Friday falls on the day after US Thanksgiving – the fourth Thursday in November. This year it falls on Friday, 29 November, 2019.
Many deals will be online on the day (from midnight), but some stores tend to start their sales early and even let them run for weeks after the starting date. We’ll post them here as soon as we know, so keep an eye out and, in the meantime, here’s our countdown to Black Friday.
Tips & Tricks for on Black Friday
Do your research. Many retailers publish their deals before Black Friday, meaning you have time to consider your options and really find the best bargain.
Make sure the retailer ships to Hong Kong.Always a good one to check before you get excited over a deal. That being said, you can now take advantage of Hong Kong’s MyUS postal service, which provides you with a US postal address to get items shipped to, before delivering them to Hong Kong.
Shop around. You might find a better deal elsewhere. Use a site like finder to see all the best Black Friday deals and sales in one place. For example, Apple is notorious for offering mediocre Black Friday deals, while other stockists selling new or refurbished Apple products might be offering a better discount.
Don’t forget that electronics might not work. It’s easy to get caught up in the bargains. Some of the best deals in the US revolve around new TVs, but even if you buy one at a massive discount, you’ll probably need an adapter and a transformer… as well as the higher shipping cost.
