  • Uses NEAR protocol on Vorto Network
  • Inspired by Starcraft and Age of Empires
  • Going through playtest
  • Multiple NFTs
  • Two new game modes incoming
  • Free to play and play to earn
  • Clear roadmap

What is Hash Rush?

Hash Rush is a play-to-earn MMORTS game, and it's going through a play test at the time of writing.

Originally, Hash Rush was only meant to be a game where players generate workers (Ernacks) to collect resources like wood, stone, crystals and fireflies. These are used to create other items like buildings, and generate rewards. Players also have to defend their bases with warriors, craft equipment and so on — a really traditional RTS game.

As of January 2022, though, the developers announced the game will have three game modes: Standard, Dungeon and Boss Assault. All the new features are set to be implemented by the end of 2022.

Hash Rush is based in the fictional Hermeian galaxy, where you'll build, craft, create a mining colony, battle monsters and more. The Hermerian Galaxy was devastated by a "Crystal Storm," and the Hermain Galaxy needs help defending against the Crystal Scourge.

Hash Rush initially came out in 2018 on the Ethereum blockchain before migrating over to the NEAR blockchain in September 2021. It's also the first game on the Vorto Network using NEAR protocol, resulting in super low-cost minting fees — around $0.02 per mint.

At the time of writing, the Hash Rush has around 5,000 members in its Discord channel, and it's working through its 2022 play test.

Playing Hash Rush

Hash Rush is currently in the middle of a play test. Early-access players had to buy special keys with RUSH tokens. For everyone else, we have to wait for the game's full release.

While you can't play right now, here's are the three planned game modes for Hash Rush, at the time of writing:

Game Mode Description
Standard Mode Using workers to generate resources, acquire building materials, crafting playable heroes and train armies for defense. Where you get special crafting materials that are tradable outside the game via Vorto Network. Items earned can include crafting resources, vault keys and crystals.
Dungeon Mode (in-progress) Create a dungeon raiding force. Dungeons will be the main source of new recipes used for crafting, and other unique items.
Boss Assault Mode (in-progress) Quick gameplay mode where you select heroes to enter a match and use a preconstructed base. You'll have a few minutes to train an army and attempt to defeat the enemy (waves). This mode will drop items related to unlocking or improving Hero Skills.

The Standard Mode of Hash Rush closely resembles modes of other RTS games, and it's the primary way to play.

You'll be required to manage your resources and make adjustments in real time. Starting out, you'll have a capped number of Ernacks (10), and must decide what they should build and where.

Different buildings and units require specific resources to create. Each decision — including where to locate specific buildings — can affect how well you perform in the game. Balance and resource management is key in Hash Rush.

For example, only creating warriors means your colony is well-defended, but you won't be able to support your colony because there aren't any workers to generate resources.

By playing Standard Mode, you can craft Heroes for the upcoming Dungeon Mode and Boss Assault Mode. You can craft Heroes, single-use boosts and equipment.

There are three playable Hero races: Ernacks, Marauders and Highborn of Eldaria. The Heroes represent characters from the game's lore. Each hero comes with unique abilities for differing play styles.

Other important things to know surrounding the upcoming game modes include:

  • Heroes — Level them up with items, equipping them and enhancing abilities. Required for play in Dungeon Mode. You can get Heroes from crafting, purchase, in-game summoning or promotional drops.
  • Abilities — Each Hero will have three abilities; passive, active and ultimate. Abilities are still in development.
  • Equipment — Hero equipment slots include on-hand weapons, off-hand weapons, armor (head, legs, feet), and necklaces and other trinkets.

What is the Hash Rush token?

The RUSH token was developed on the Ethereum blockchain as Hash Rush's utility token. It's an ERC-20 token that was awarded to players for completing weekly challenges.

Hash Rush has migrated over to the Vorto platform on the NEAR blockchain. On August 20, 2021, Hash Rush initiated a token burn for 60 million RUSH tokens as they began the migration process to the NEAR blockchain.

Those who had collected or purchased RUSH tokens in the initial launch were incentivized to send their tokens to an Ethereum burn address in exchange for a limited edition NFT.

However, RUSH will remain a utility token for the game. Hash Rush will have a dedicated marketplace that supports RUSH tokens only. You'll be able to use your RUSH tokens to purchase skins, limited edition heroes and special in-game items.

Once the item is purchased, it will be tokenized on the NEAR Network. Other uses for the token are in development as well, including governance.

How to buy Hash Rush token

It looks like RUSH may not be available to purchase on an exchange in the US.

You can still purchase RUSH by using a decentralized exchange (DEX) instead. Decentralized exchanges are web applications that run on blockchains like Ethereum and allow users to trade any asset directly with one another.

Decentralized exchanges (DEX) are unregulated and run using autonomous pieces of code known as smart contracts. To use a DEX you must interact with the blockchain directly, which is not recommended for novice users. Please learn about decentralized exchanges first if you're unfamiliar.

How to purchase RUSH using a decentralized exchange.
  1. Find RUSH on a decentralized exchange and make sure RUSH can be traded for ETH which is the native asset of Ethereum. Popular DEXs include Uniswap, SushiSwap and 1INCH.
  2. Buy ETH to trade for RUSH using an exchange like Gemini. You will need to purchase enough ETH to swap for RUSH as well as ETH to pay for transaction fees on the Ethereum network (known as gas). You can use a service like Etherscan to get an idea of how much gas fees currently cost.
  3. Transfer the ETH into a web 3.0 wallet like MetaMask to connect to the DEX.
  4. Trade ETH for RUSH on the DEX of your choice, following the instructions on screen. Make sure to leave enough ETH in your wallet to pay for gas.
  5. Wait for the transaction to finalize and the RUSH tokens will arrive in your wallet.
  6. You may now keep the tokens in your web 3.0 wallet or transfer them somewhere more secure like a hardware wallet.

You can follow the same process when you want to sell your tokens, or come back to this page to see if they can now be traded on an exchange in the US.

How does play-to-earn work with Hash Rush?

While Hash Rush isn't finished, the play-to-earn methods are set to revolve around the crafting system and items.

Acquire recipes and craft items to sell on the Vorto Network marketplace. Rare items can sell for more in the marketplace, clearing dungeons can result in rare item drops and players can improve their owned items through the crafting system.

Like many other RTS games, success means setting yourself up on a cycle:

  1. Obtain resources.
  2. Craft items from resources.
  3. Equip heroes with crafted items.
  4. Heroes clear dungeons, obtain more items.
  5. Player improves items through crafting system.
  6. Rinse and repeat.

What are Hash Rush NFTs?

There are many NFTs in Hash Rush: workers, soldiers, in-game boosts, custom skins, buildings, resources, blueprints and much more. There are also varying rarities, such as Common and Legendary.

NFTs can be earned through gameplay, and are bought and sold in the peer-to-peer marketplace or purchased directly in the Game Store. There are NFT Founder Bundles that you can purchase with fiat currency. Each bundle will include one of the three Heroes and a unique NFT in-game skin; skins are purely cosmetic.

The marketplace can be a great place to get the Hash Rush NFTs, but you don't have to buy them to play. You can craft your own heroes or summon them in the game through resource farming.

Hash RushImage source: Hash Rush Note: While Hash Rush uses NFTs, items are not automatically NFTs when you get one in the game.

Items that you buy from the Vorto Network marketplace or get through in-game drops are tokenized — but items you get playing the game aren't automatically tokenized.

The reason for this is fees. Hash Rush states to keep a high player count and bring in new players, they want to make sure there are as few paywalls as possible. Since the play-to-earn methods revolve around the crafting system, they want to avoid requiring players to pay for minting fees whenever they craft a new item.

If you want to sell your in-game NFT on the marketplace, it must be tokenized, but fees on the NEAR network are around $0.02 per mint. Minting your in-game items that you've acquired through gameplay isn't required.

How to get NFTs on Hash Rush

To buy NFTs for Hash Rush, head to the Game Store or Marketplace. The game isn't available, but these NFT markets are up and running. The Game Store is where you can buy NFTs directly from Hash Rush, and the Marketplace is peer-to-peer.

Keep in mind that Hash Rush is still in playtest, so there really isn't much to buy aside from the Founder Bundles and Hero Skins with fiat currency from the Game Store. The Founder bundles are retailing on the Vorto gaming platform for $25 each or they can be purchased for $60 in the Triumvirate package.

Here's how to create an account and use either market:

  1. From HashRush.com select Marketplace on the homepage.
  2. Select LOGIN on the top-right corner. If you don't have a Vorto account, select Sign Up. You only need an email and password combination. Or, you can log in with a Google account.
  3. After you're logged in, select either GAME STORE or MARKETPLACE from the main navigation menu.
  4. Sort through the listings and choose the NFT you want to buy.

How to sell NFTs from Hash Rush

To sell NFTs from Hash Rush, you'll head to the peer-to-peer marketplace accessible on the Hash Rush site.

Hash Rush notes that there is no "paywall" for selling Hero NFTs on the market, but there are some limitations when selling. Levels that can be traded without restriction include: Level 1, Level 10, Level 20, and so on.

Trading beyond Level 1 requires the player to unlock an in-game feature, undefined at the time of writing.

About the Hash Rush developers

The studio behind Hash Rush is VZ Games, a blockchain gaming studio founded in 2017 and based out of Latvia.

Something worth talking about is how Hash Rush is on the Vorto Network. The Vorto gaming platform is launching a traditional online gaming platform akin to the platforms that Steam, Epic Games Launcher and the Blizzard launcher have run for years.

Vorto Gaming is attempting to create a platform that decentralized crypto and NFT games can be launched from while also supplying a single marketplace where players can buy and sell their hard-earned NFTs.

Considering Steam changed its terms of service in October 2021 to de-platform games that provide cryptocurrency and NFT markets, there's a definitive opportunity for Vorto to fill that space.

As for the initial RUSH tokens that players may still have, this is what the CEO of Vorto Gaming had to say about the issue: "We are constantly evolving the Vorto platform, and we owe it to our users to look at ways of integrating some of our original assets — like RUSH — into this ever-expanding metaverse."

Hash Rush roadmap

We greatly appreciate Hash Rush's incredibly detailed roadmap. Here are some notable updates planned for late 2022:

  • Adding crafting system
  • Expand number of items Heroes can use
  • Skin customization system
  • Improve balance on Heroes and equipment
  • More dungeons, rewards, planets and biomes

Bottom line

Hash Rush is a fresh take on the RTS genre. It is fun and approachable, and it will be an easy on-ramp for gamers into the cryptocurrency and NFT space. It has been in development since 2018 and the developers listened to the issues early playtesters had with the game.

The developers are transparent on where they are concerning improvements and the implementation of the new game modes, including showing their current progress on the 2022 summer playtest.

We also appreciate the fact that not every item you have in the game will need to be tokenized. This can remove a lot of barriers for traditional gamers that want to check out Hash Rush, and of course, be more affordable if you're a daily player that's constantly crafting.

Hash Rush will hopefully be completed by the end of 2022. We'll update this page as more information becomes available. For now, you can check out other crypto games to play.
