The basics

The Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card is designed for small business owners who are loyal to Delta Air Lines when traveling.

Every Delta purchase you make with this card earns 2 miles per dollar, and all other purchases earn 1 mile per dollar. Redeem your miles toward flights, seat upgrades, vacation packages, car rentals, gift cards and more.

New cardholders enjoy a welcome offer of 60,000 miles after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first four months your account is open (this offer expires September 19, 2018). Compared with other travel cards, this is a generous welcome offer that’s easy to earn.

Other travel perks include Zone 1 priority boarding on Delta flights for up to nine passengers on your reservation, as well as no charge for the first checked bag for all passengers traveling on your reservation.

You can save up to $50 round trip with Delta on the bag waiver alone, helping to justify the $95 annual fee you’ll pay starting your second year.

How much are SkyMiles worth?

The value of SkyMiles varies based on the service or product you’re redeeming them for. To find the strongest value for your SkyMiles, divide the cash value listed next to the miles required. The higher the number, the stronger the redemption value.

Here’s what you’ll see with top redemption options:

    • Redeem 35,700 SkyMiles for a $250 gift card — a value of 0.7 cents a mile.
    • Redeem 26,600 miles to buy a Samsonite 20-inch carry-on worth $150 to $200 — a value of around 0.65 cents per mile.
    • Redeem 258,200 miles to buy an Apple MacBook Pro worth $1,299 — a value of 0.5 cents per mile.
    • Redeem 10,000 miles or more toward a $130 round-trip domestic Delta flight, plus taxes and fees — a value of 1.3 cents per mile.

Comparing products and services in Delta’s SkyMiles Marketplace, it’s clear that flights offer the highest value per mile. To make the most of your Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card, redeem your miles for airfare on future travels.

What to watch out for

  • No intro APR on purchases.

If you’re looking for an intro APR, consider the Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card by American Express. It offers 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 15 months, reverting to 12.99%, 16.99% or 20.99% variable after.

  • No balance transfers.

Typically, business credit cards allow balance transfers. However, that’s not the case with Delta SkyMiles® business cards.

  • Annual fee.

American Express waives the annual fee for your first year, but you’ll pay $95 each year after to use the card.

  • Steep penalty for late payments.

You face a penalty APR of 29.99% on all balances if you make two or more late payments in a 12-month period, don’t pay the minimum payment by the due date or make a returned payment.

Consider other cards if…

  • You want travel rewards without the annual fee.

If you frequently send employees to far-flung places for business, consider the Business Advantage Travel Rewards World Mastercard® credit card by Bank of America. You’ll earn 3x points for travel booked through the Bank of America Travel Center and 1.5x points on all other purchases. Redeem points toward flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises, vacation packages, baggage fees — even gift cards and cash back.

  • You want cash back or statement credit.

If your business spends thousands of dollars on gas and office supplies, you can score cashback rewards with the Business Advantage Cash Rewards Mastercard® credit card by Bank of America. It offers 3% cash back on gas and office supplies on up to $250,000 a year, reverting to 1% after that, as well as 2% cash back at restaurants. On all other purchases, you’ll earn 1% cash back.

Another contender is the SimplyCash® Plus Business Credit Card from American Express, which offers 5% cash back on US office supplies and wireless services at US retailers, 3% on the category of your choice and 1% on everything else. The 5% and 3% cashback tiers apply on up to $50,000 in combined purchases, reverting to 1% after.

  • You want a low intro APR.

For a card offering one of the longest intro periods out there, look to Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card by American Express. You’ll get a 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 15 months, reverting to 12.99%, 16.99% or 20.99% variable after.
