When do Fourth of July sales start?

Be on the lookout for Fourth of July sales starting mid-June. In years past, large retailers like Dick’s and Best Buy have rolled out sales around June 20th — and lots of stores keep stellar sales going throughout July or longer.

Because Independence Day falls smack in the middle of summer, you can sometimes get away with buying seasonal items like picnic essentials, summer clothing and back-to-school gear. For grills and lawn mowers, you might want to hold off on making a purchase until the offseason.

Where to shop Fourth of July sales 2020

The best places to shop Fourth of July deals depend on what you’re looking for. The biggest sales this time of year tend to be on items for your home, clothing and gadgets galore.

Mattress discounts tend to skyrocket on holidays like President’s Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day, when most people take extra days off from work.

Be on the lookout for all bedtime comforts this summer, including free giveaways on pillows and box springs, deep discounts on mattresses and bedding and mail-in rebates for extra savings.

In the past, online mattress giant Casper held a fun take on the classic BOGO sale for the Fourth: For every mattress you bought, you got a free floating mattress for your pool! There’s no telling if the company will bring back this sweet deal, but you can expect to see slashed prices with big online retailers.

You might have to hold out until closer to the actual holiday with other retailers looking to extend their sales beyond the Fourth.

Furniture and home goods

By looking in all the right places, you can save on furniture and home goods items with plenty of time before your Fourth of July get-together.

Major online retailer Wayfair already boasts big sales for the Fourth. Save more than 40% on four-piece sets of Fiestaware in just about any color with overall deals on party essentials like glassware, knife sets and table runners.

For large furniture, keep an eye on big-box department stores like JCPenney and Macy’s, which usually include chairs, loveseats, sofas and mattresses in their patriotic price cuts. Last year, JCPenney advertised furniture and mattresses for up to 55% off.

You might want to hold off on buying outdoor appliances, especially grills for those epic hot dogs, if you can help it. Retailers know they won’t have to offer that big of a discount on items that you’ll likely need right now. So unless the Fourth of July party simply can’t go on without a new one, you may be able to snag a deeper discount after summer.

However, July sales can be a great time to snag a solid deal on indoor appliances like refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers and washers and dryers. Last year, Lowe’s offered a rebate of $50 to $450 on the purchase of two or more major appliances priced at $396 or more.

Home Depot got a creative with its tiered Independence Day sale last year. Customers saved $50 on two appliances, $100 on three, $200 on four, $300 on five and $450 on six appliances or more.

Women’s clothing

Generally, you can save money by steering clear of in-season items, even during sales events. But Fourth of July clothing sales are an exception.

Many clothing retailers like Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Bloomingdale’s and Boohoo hand down hard-to-beat deals on summer clothing in July. In years past, Banana Republic offered one of the strongest Fourth of July clothing sales: 30% off regular-priced items and 50% off sale items.

Boohoo often runs a pretty snazzy sale for the Fourth, so be sure to check online as the holiday approaches to see if you can save up to 30% off your fave summer styles.

Back to school typically comes with top discounts on laptops and other gear. But big names like HP, Dell and Lenovo tend to offer Independence Day savings worth celebrating.

Before sealing a deal, compare prices with online electronics retailers like Newegg and Amazon so you know you’re getting the most awesome deal out there. Look to Newegg for special Fourth of July deals, like $150 off select Lenovo laptops and $65 off select Asus monitors.

If you’re looking for a new iPhone or other Apple items, you might have better luck waiting until September’s Apple keynote rolls around.
