The Diamond Resorts International® Mastercard® is a travel credit card with a $0 annual fee, a mediocre signup bonus, intro APRs and rewards on all purchases.
When deciding whether to get the card, your decision can be relatively simple: Just consider how often you spend with Diamond Resorts.
If you’re a regular, the card could be useful. It offers 2x points on Diamond Resorts purchases, excluding down payments. On top of that, you’ll earn 500 points for every $2,000 in spending of any kind outside of down payments. Given that level of spending, you’re essentially getting a 2.25% rewards rate on eligible Diamond Resorts purchases, which is great for a no-annual-fee card.
If you don’t stay with Diamond Resorts much, the card might not pack enough value for you. You’ll earn 1x points on spending outside of Diamond Resorts purchases, which is effectively a 1.25% rewards rate given the points boost. Meanwhile, you’ll find no-annual-fee competitors that offer a superior 1.5% rewards rate on all purchases.
The card’s signup bonus — 2,500 points after your first purchase — leaves a lot to be desired. It’s easy to qualify for, as you need to make one purchase. But 2,500 points are worth just $25 in Diamond Resorts statement credit, which is much lower than the signup-bonus value you’ll find with other travel cards. Similarly, the promo APR is short and could be extended to all purchases — not just Diamond Vacation Ownership down payments.
If you’re looking for a balance transfer intro APR, however, you’ll find a solid one here: 15 months on transfers you make within 45 days of account opening, then 15.74%, 19.99% or 24.99% variable.
What credit score do I need?
Applicants typically have the best chances of approval when they have good to excellent FICO credit scores of at least 670. Keep in mind that approval is never guaranteed.
If you’re a Diamond Resorts regular, the Diamond Resorts International® Mastercard® could be a solid choice for you. You get to earn points on your purchases and can pay off your qualifying Diamond Resort purchases interest-free for a few months.
But if it doesn’t sound like the right fit, compare travel credit cards for other options.
