Overview of Leesa

Leesa is focused on helping you get a better night’s sleep without spending a fortune on a new bed, period. Its founders were sick and tired of mattress shopping the traditional way — spending hours in a mattress store only to find it’s not what you’d hoped for at home. With Leesa, you can choose from an all-foam or hybrid foam/spring coil mattress online and have it shipped right to your door without ever stepping inside a mattress store.

Overview of Purple

The folks at Purple are on a mission to do things differently from the rest of the online mattress pack. Its mattresses combine foam and a layer of a gel-like hyper-elastic polymer, which provides a bouncy weightlessness unlike your typical memory foam. You can now take your pick from two different mattress models depending on how much you’re looking to spend.

Compare Leesa vs. Purple financing

Leesa and Purple both work with Affirm to help you finance your purchase. Because of this, you’ll find nearly identical financing policies from both brands.

Pros Cons
Leesa
  • 0% APR for those who qualify, with instant eligibility.
  • Taxes and fees calculated at checkout, so you know exactly what you’ll pay.
  • You can’t use coupon codes with financing.
  • Not available to residents of Iowa or West Virginia.

Shipping and delivery

Both Leesa and Purple are happy to ship your mattress and other products to your door for free. For an extra $100, Leesa sets up your mattress in your bedroom. Taking away your old mattress costs an extra $50 on top of the $100 white-glove delivery charge.

Purple offers complimentary white-glove delivery, but for its higher-end model. It’ll also take away your old mattress for free. This doesn’t include box-spring removal, however.

Trial periods and returns

A major perk to buying a mattress online is the risk-free trial period most brands offer. Leesa and Purple both encourage you to take 100 nights to determine whether you and your new bed can get along before commiting long term.

If you don’t love your mattress for any reason during this trial period, Leesa and Purple send someone to your house to pick it up and haul it away — for free. Plus, you’ll get your money back.

But you’ll find a couple of exceptions:

  • Leesa charges $100 for returns to Alaska and Hawaii.
  • Purple doesn’t accept returns on sheets, mattress protectors or bases.
  • If you buy either of these mattresses through Amazon, you’ll need to process your return through Amazon instead.

Positive online reviews

Customers rave about the comfort levels both Leesa and Purple mattresses offer. In particular, Leesa sounds like a top choice for side sleepers who have a hard time finding a mattress that’s just right — not too firm and not too soft.

Another plus for Leesa is that it offers foam and hybrid options. If you’re not used to a foam mattress, you might want to give the hybrid Sapira model a try for optimal edge support.

Purple also gets bonus points for comfort, thanks to the responsiveness of its top-layer polymer material. Amazon reviews for this mattress sing its praises for anyone struggling to find a mattress that doesn’t aggravate back pain.

Customer service experience

For as comfy as Leesa and Purple may be, each brand’s customer service sounds lacking. Some online reviewers report problems with slow or delayed delivery, stressful returns and difficulty getting in touch with a customer service rep.

Both companies are active on Facebook, typically responding within the hour, so you might try messaging the support team if you’re having trouble speaking to someone.

Consider these three alternatives

If neither of these mattresses sound like the best fit for your sleeping needs, take a look at other popular brands like Casper, Nest and Eve. They’re similar but offer slightly different mattress options — some foam, some hybrid, all popular.

Bottom line

If you’ve narrowed down your search to Leesa or Purple, your final decision will likely come down to the feel of the mattress you’re looking for. While Leesa’s hybrid option could offer better edge support for heavier sleepers and bedroom proclivities, Purple’s patented elastic material gives it bounce that regular foam can’t beat.

Before settling in for the night, compare other online mattress options to find the perfect fit.
