Guide to Citi ThankYou rewards program

A solid rewards program best used for booking travel.

Updated

Fact checked

The ThankYou rewards program — offered by Citi, a finder.com advertising partner — received a pretty big value boost with the recent inclusion of point transfer partners. Previously, it offered fairly standard redemption options, but now Citi’s ThankYou rewards program stands up to other industry favorite programs.

Why sign up for the Citi ThankYou program?

The Citi ThankYou program offers much of what you’d want out of a credit card rewards program, including a plethora of airline transfer partners. You can also use the Citi Premier® Card to redeem points through the Citi travel portal for additional value — a feature not shared by all credit card rewards programs.

Citi backs all of this up with a strong selection of rewards credit cards, including big-hitters such as the Citi Premier® Card and Citi Prestige® Credit Card.

How much are Citi ThankYou points worth?

Citi ThankYou points are generally worth 1 cent each. This value can change depending on how you redeem your points. For example, redeeming points on cash back will reduce the value of your points to 0.05 cents each. However, redeeming your points on travel using the Citi Premier® Card will increase your point value to 1.25 cents each.

Citi cards that earn ThankYou points

There are a few Citi credit cards that can help you earn ThankYou points, but the Citi Prestige® Credit Card and the Citi Premier® Card are particularly strong choices.

Citi Premier® Card
Like the Citi Prestige® Credit Card, this card allows you to transfer your ThankYou points to Citi’s transfer partners. However, the Citi Premier® Card also allows you to earn an additional 25% value on your points when you book travel through the Citi travel portal.

Pairing Citi rewards cards

If you want to get the most out of the Citi ThankYou program, consider picking up two cards: a card that best earns points based on your spending and one of the two Citi cards that can transfer points to Citi’s transfer partners. You’ll often get the best point value by transferring as most points transfer at a 1:1 ratio.
