How to finance a Chevrolet

Teachers, college students and police officers can unlock special discounts.

No matter if you’re looking to spend less than $15,000 on a modest hatchback or you’re willing to shell out over $50,000 for a luxurious SUV, Chevy has you covered. And when it comes to financing, you have a few different avenues to take. While in-house financing at an authorized dealership might be the fastest way to go, you’ll likely find a more competitive rate if you shop around elsewhere.

How can I finance a Chevy?

To get the best deal on a car loan, you’ll want to shop ahead. Prequalifying with a few different banks, credit unions or online lenders will allow you to compare rates and learn how much you can really afford to borrow. And while it takes some preplanning, it gives you the ability to walk into the dealership with funding in hand — which can help you avoid rate markups.

But if you’re in a rush to buy, financing through GM — Chevrolet’s parent company — at an authorized dealership is the quickest option. Many can process your paperwork the same day, and you may still be able to negotiate the details of your loan to get a good deal. Here’s how financing and leasing with GM Financial breaks down:

  • GM Financial auto loans. You can apply for a loan through GM Financial online or at a dealership. In the past, we’ve seen great deals like 0% financing for five years on the 2019 Camaro and up to $2,750 cash back on the 2019 Blazer.
  • GM Financial leasing. GM Financial rewards loyal customers with discounts on leasing, though even new drivers can take advantage of special rates. In the past, exclusive offers included leasing the 2020 Suburban for $599 per month for 39 months or the 2020 Tahoe for $549 per month for 39 months.

As with all loans, the rates and terms you’re ultimately approved for will depend on your personal financial situation. The lowest rates are typically reserved for well-qualified drivers with spotless credit reports, low debt-to-income ratios and high incomes.

Prequalify for a car loan online with GM Financial, and it will match you with a participating dealership. You’ll need to contact the dealership to conclude your vehicle selection and complete the credit application to finalize the loan.

What special discounts or programs does Chevrolet offer?

Chevy has numerous discount programs that may apply to you. Rather than give you a specific amount of cash back, your discount will reduce the MSRP of the vehicle you’re buying.

You may qualify if you fit one of the following categories:

  • Teachers. Must be employed by a public school, private school, college or university.
  • First responders. Must be a firefighter, police officer, EMT, paramedic or 911 dispatcher.
  • Military members. Must be on active duty, in the Reserves or National Guard, retired or a veteran discharged within the past three years.
  • College students. Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student or have graduated within the past two years.

What will a new Chevrolet cost me?

Because of the wide range of models and trims available, you may pay anywhere from $13,000 to over $50,000 for a new Chevrolet. The final price will depend on where you live, your negotiation skills and any discounts you may qualify for.

Car insurance costs that come with driving a Chevrolet

What is the warranty for a new Chevrolet?

Chevrolet offers its drivers three warranties for most cars, as well as a special warranty for its electric and hybrid models:

  • Bumper-to-bumper limited warranty — 3 years or 36,000 miles
  • Powertrain limited warranty — 5 years or 60,000 miles
  • Electric and hybrid warranty — 8 years or 100,000 miles for certain components

In addition, Chevy has a warranty option that extends your bumper-to-bumper coverage to five years or 60,000 miles — but it must be purchased when you buy your car.

Bottom line

Chevy offers vehicles to meet the needs of a wide variety of drivers — and there are plenty of financing options to go along with it. If financing directly through GM Financial doesn’t appeal to you, compare your other car loan options from banks, credit unions and online lenders to find the best deal available to you.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the My GM Rewards program?

The My GM Rewards program allows you to earn points for every purchase you make toward your Chevy or other GM vehicle. This includes the vehicle itself, getting it serviced and buying parts. Your points can then be redeemed to help reduce the cost of having your car serviced, using a remote access plan or making a new vehicle purchase.

  • How do I get financing for a used Chevy?

GM Financial offers financing for certified preowned (CPO) models. For private sales or used Chevys from a nonauthorized dealership, you’ll need to compare your other used car loan options instead.

  • What other brands can I finance through GM Financial?

GM Financial covers all the brands under the GM label, including Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac.
