CheapOair review
Score cheap deals and earn rewards through its member program.
Updated
CheapOair is a one-stop-shop for booking trips and vacations, and is good if you travel frequently and could benefit from CheapOair Rewards. But its hefty service fees and poor customer service reputation could prove troublesome if you need to change or cancel your trip.

CheapOair Rewards
Become a member and earn points with every booking. There’s four possible tiers, and each tier earns a different amount of points for every dollar. Here’s how it works:
- 1. Bronze. The lowest tier, where you’ll rank until you make the first booking.
- 2. Silver. Book once to level up to silver. There, you’ll earn one point for every dollar spent.
- 3. Gold. Book twice or spend a minimum of $2,000 to level up to gold, where you’ll earn two points for every dollar spent.
- 4. Platinum. Book three times or spend a minimum of $3,000 to level up to platinum and earn three points for every dollar spent.
More ways to earn points include:
- Signing up. You’ll get 500 points just for creating an account.
- Making your first booking. You’ll get 500 bonus points the first time you make a purchase or reservation.
- Referring a friend. Get 5,000 points.
- Use the CheapOair Credit card. To earn 6x the amount of points.
- Book through the app. Earn twice the amount of points with mobile bookings.
Redeem points to get lower rates on flight tickets and hotel reservations. However, the value of points earned through CheapOair isn’t clear (one point does not equal one dollar). So travel hackers that like to strategize down to the penny may want to go a different route.
CheapOair Credit Card
Frequent travelers might benefit from the CheapOair credit card, helping to rack up points more quickly. It also offers special perks like emergency card replacement, cash disbursement and roadside dispatch. You’ve got two options to chose from:
- CheapOair Visa credit card
- CheapOair Signature credit card
Pros and cons
Consider the benefits and drawbacks before booking your vacation through CheapOair:
Pros
- Coupons for inconvenient flights. If a flight that you booked through CheapOair is delayed more than one hour, or your baggage is lost or delayed, CheapOair will issue each ticket holder a $5 coupon for future bookings.
- Price match guarantee. CheapOair guarantees that you’re getting the lowest price on airfare and hotel reservations. If you find a cheaper rate elsewhere, it’ll credit you the difference on your next flight or hotel purchase — in addition to issuing you a $10 refund.
Cons
- It doesn’t search every airline. CheapOair won’t list results from Delta, Southwest Airlines or Allegiant Air — so you may not be getting the full picture.
- Poor customer service reputation. More than 150 reviews on the Better Business Bureau average out to just one star. Most of the complaints are about huge service fees and a lack of overall helpfulness after purchasing tickets — though CheapOair has responded to most comments.
- Fees for changes and cancellations. Cancelling or changing your reservation with CheapOair will cost you, on top of the fee that an airline charges. CheapOair doesn’t say what its fees for cancelling are, reviewers have said you could pay $75 or more.
- Booking fees add up fast. Its fees are included in the prices, but expect to pay between $35 and $40 for flights, rooms and car rentals.
- Cruises are handled by a third party. If you’re looking to book a cruise directly through a travel site, you’ll want to look elsewhere. CheapOair sends you to Avoya Travel to complete the booking through a travel agent.
Bottom line
CheapOair’s rewards program and credit card could save you money on frequent travel. If you’re ready to book, check to see if there’s a CheapOair promo code that might apply.
Still, it won’t be best for cautious shoppers. If you’re not confident booking with CheapOair, consider perusing some other leading travel sites.
