Expert review

The Ink Business Unlimited℠ Credit Card is the newest addition to the suite of business cards by Chase. It comes with a $0 annual fee and an unlimited 1.5x points on all purchases — or 1.5% in cash back — and it has no additional cardholder fee for your employees.

In addition, you get to earn a solid $500 welcome offer, and you get 12 months of 0% intro APR period on purchases. This can help you stack up on inventories and pay them off in a year without paying interest.

Another cool feature of the Ink Business Unlimited℠ Credit Card is that you can move your points to the more expensive Ink Preferred card and get even higher reward value when you redeem for travel purchases. But even without this feature, the Ink Business Unlimited℠ Credit Card can be a solid credit card to any business looking to earn flat rewards on all purchases.

The perks

  • Signup bonus.

Get $500 bonus cash back when you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. You can redeem your points for $500 cash back, which equals a 16.6% return for the $3,000 spent.

  • Unlimited cash back.

Get 1.5% cashback rewards on every purchase you make. That’s about $1.50, or 150 points, per $100 spent. If you don’t spend on any particular category like office supplies, gas or travel booking, then a universal cashback card could benefit your company.

  • Intro APR on purchases.

You get a 0% intro APR on purchases for the first 12 months from opening your account and an APR between 14.74% to 20.74% variable after that. If you plan to make a large purchase, the intro APR period could help you out.

You’ll also like …

  • Travel protection.

To assist you when traveling, the card membership gives you access to legal, medical or other travel emergency assistance you may need. Also, when you pay for your entire car rental with your Ink Business Unlimited℠ Credit Card, you’re insured against theft or collision damage.

  • Roadside assistance.

Whenever you need help on the road — whether it be towing, replacing a tire, charging your car battery or gas delivery — call 1-800-847-2869 and the emergency service will assist you. Keep in mind that third-party service costs will be charged to your card.

  • Purchase protection.

Get coverage up to 120 days after you make a purchase against damage or theft up to $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per account. You also get extended warranty on eligible items.

  • No additional cardholder fee for employee cards.

Get employee cards at no additional cost. Also, you can set up spending limits and earn additional cash back from every purchase your employees make.

  • Credit line.

Usually, the size of the credit line you receive depends on many factors, but with this card, you’ll start with at least $3,000. This is relatively higher when compared to other cashback cards. For example, the Spark® Cash by Capital One has a starting credit line of $2,000. To get a credit limit higher than $25,000, Chase may request additional information from you.

What to watch out for

  • Foreign transaction fees.

When you travel abroad, try to minimize your payments with this card or you will incur fees of 3% per transaction.

  • High late payment fees.

If you make late payments you will pay up to $39 in fees.

  • High balance transfer and cash advance fees.

The card comes with balance transfer fees of $5 or 5% whichever is greater of the transfer as well as cash advance fees of $15 or 5% of the amount of each transaction, whichever is greater. Other small business cards have fees of 3% to 4%.

Cash back or points?

Cash back is the term that Chase uses when marketing this card. This means that Chase tracks your cash back as points and for each $1 you earn as cash back you actually earn 100 points. You can redeem points for cash back either as a statement credit or a deposit to your checking or savings account.

Does earning points mean I can redeem them for other rewards instead of cash back?

Yes! You can redeem your points for gift cards, travel booking or you can shop with points directly at Amazon.

You’ll be able to earn more points if Chase offers you special promotions or if you make purchases through Chase’s shopping portal, Shop through Chase®.

When you redeem for airfare, hotels, car rentals and cruises through Chase Ultimate Rewards®, your points are worth 25% more.

How long will it take to get my card?

The approval for a Chase business card is usually instant. In some cases, it may take 7 to 10 business days, and if additional verification is required, it could take up to 30 days. Upon approval, you’ll receive your card within 10 business days.

I got the card. Now what?

  • Monitor your account. Log in to your online account or download the Chase Mobile® app to keep track of your card activities.
  • Make timely payments. If you don’t, you’ll pay late fees of up to $39.
  • Avoid paying fees and interest. Aside from late payment fees, you’ll pay fees for cash advances, balance transfers and foreign transactions. You’ll also pay a cash advance APR of 26.49% variable.
  • Set spending controls. Control your employees’ spending by setting up limits.
  • Contact customer service. For any questions you may have, call Chase customer service for business credit cards at 1-888-269-8690.

How to make the most out of this card?

  • Since the Ink Business Unlimited℠ Credit Card has a $0 annual fee, you can get one for each of your employees and earn points whenever they use their cards.
  • Or you can pair it with other Unlimited Rewards cards and you’ll get a decent points-earning combo.

Which cards can I pair?

You can pair the Ink Business Unlimited℠ Credit Card with all of the business and personal cards from Chase that have the Unlimited Rewards program.

For example, you can pair it with the Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card. With this card, you’ll earn 3x points on travel; shipping purchases; Internet, cable and phone services; and advertising purchases with social media sites and search engines. This applies to the first $150,000 you spend in these categories per year; after that, you’ll earn 1x points. For all other purchases, you’ll earn 1x points.

You can transfer these points in a 1:1 ratio with Chase’s airline and hotel partners. Plus, the card has 0% foreign transaction fees, which means you can use it freely when traveling abroad.

You can use your Ink Business Unlimited℠ Credit Card when making purchases outside of those selected categories of the Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card to earn 1.5x points instead of the 1x points that the Preferred card offers. Once you gather enough points, you can move them to your Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card and you can either transfer your points to airlines or hotels, or you can redeem them in a way that suits you best.

To get the highest value, redeem your points for travel booking through Chase Ultimate Rewards, where points are worth 25% more.

Bottom line

The Ink Business Unlimited℠ Credit Card offers a generous signup bonus and an unlimited 1.5 points per dollar spent on all purchases. On its own, this card can be useful to small businesses that spend on various categories. But pair it with another Ultimate Rewards card and you’ll start earning some serious points.

Before applying for a credit card, consider your options to find the best one that compliments your business.
