Champions Ascension is the latest blockchain game developed by Jam City, the acclaimed North American subsidiary of Netmarble. With well-received mobile gaming titles like Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery and Cookie Jam backing up their brand, Jam City is now entering the NFT space with its latest Web 3.0 offering. Within a player-driven fantasy world, participants of Champions Ascension explore, battle and earn rewards with unique NFT champions, called Prime Eternals. And for crypto enthusiasts wanting in on the action, the new play-to-earn — or P2E — game aims to include a token economy with staking gameplay.
Champions Ascension is the first P2E game to come out of Jam City's blockchain division. It's an adventure game set in the fantasy world Messina. Using NFT champions, players battle each other for rewards in the Colosseum Eternal.
With its soon-to-be-developed token economy, Champions Ascension plans to use novel mechanics for staking gameplay. Tokens, staking, owner perks and battle modes are set to release in early 2022.
Champions Ascension is yet to be released, though we expect players will need to connect a wallet for basic blockchain transactions and purchase an NFT for basic gameplay.
Champions Ascension is still in development at the time of writing. Here's what we know so far:
It looks like ESSENCE may not be available to purchase on an exchange in the US.
You can still purchase ESSENCE by using a decentralized exchange (DEX) instead. Decentralized exchanges are web applications that run on blockchains like Ethereum and allow users to trade any asset directly with one another.
Decentralized exchanges (DEX) are unregulated and run using autonomous pieces of code known as smart contracts. To use a DEX you must interact with the blockchain directly, which is not recommended for novice users. Please learn about decentralized exchanges first if you're unfamiliar.
You can follow the same process when you want to sell your tokens, or come back to this page to see if they can now be traded on an exchange in the US.
The first drop of Champion Ascension NFTs are known as Prime Eternals. These unique tokens act as a player's primary avatar in the game — and they're animated!
Prime Eternals are made up of several hundred features, including body types, hairstyles, piercings and other functional parts. Only 10,000 Prime Eternals will be created.
Prime Eternals will be the only champions in the game with divine components. Founding members who purchase a Prime Eternal from the initial drop will be able to shape the future of the game's road map through voting access on Discord.
A private sale will offer 2,000 Prime Eternal NFT champions to select members on the company's safelist. Members can purchase 1 Prime Eternal on the Champions Ascension website. A public sale will drop 7,500 Prime Eternals, with 500 held in reserve for promotional purposes.
With Champions Ascension built on the Ethereum blockchain, it's likely you'll need ETH to purchase Prime Eternals. However, specifics about which wallets can connect to the planned marketplace — or how much these NFTs will cost — is not yet available.
Jam City is the developer behind this project, a company that's been around since 2010. Founded by Chris DeWolfe, Colin Digiaro, Aber Whitcomb and Josh Yguado, it's a reputable company with multiple studios across the United States, Canada, South America and Europe with over 800 employees.
DeWolfe, Digiaro, and Whitcomb are all co-founders of MySpace, the once-popular social media platform.
All the games previously produced by Jam City are for mobile devices, both on iOS and Android. Some titles include Bingo Pop, Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff, Disney Emoji Blitz, Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow and Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. These are some huge franchises.
Jam City's new blockchain division is working on Champions Ascension, and while it might be a new division, the developer has stellar experience.
Based on the project's road map, we can expect five unique features to be included soon after the Champions Ascension launch.
Despite the trusted names behind the game, some sneak peeks of potential gameplay and a road map for future developments, little information is available on the planned economics of Champion Ascension.
It remains unknown, for example, if land tokens (MESSINA) or Diamond Hand tokens, earned from staking NFTs, can be further staked on the platform. There is also no guarantee that planned developments will happen on a timely schedule
As with any cryptocurrency transaction, there is no guarantee that your NFT or tokens earned in gameplay will hold their value over time. Players should keep these considerations in mind before sinking time and money into the game.
Champions Ascension will be the first P2E game rolled out from Jam City's new blockchain division. With stunning graphics and skilled gameplay governing the mechanics of epic PVP battles, the P2E, NFT-based game is sure to please its growing fan base — should it roll out as expected.
However, the game itself remains in the development phase. And its fantasy world can't yet be explored as of February 2022. While Champions Ascension will be built on the Ethereum blockchain, it's not yet known if L2 blockchains, like Polygon (MATIC), will be incorporated.
The potential exists for a blockbuster hit among fans. If the team follows their road map as planned, Champions Ascension may turn out to be one of the best blockchain games to drop in 2022.
