Like in most parts of the globe, the streaming of content and particularly live sport has come a long way in Switzerland. A market that was once overloaded with pop-up-fuelled, unreliable and often illegal streaming options now has a number of official, legitimate choices for viewing sport on your preferred device.
In Switzerland, depending on the provider, sports streaming can be available on mobiles and tablets, laptops and PCs, plus certain Smart TVs and gaming consoles. It’s always worth checking with providers to ascertain device compatibility for your chosen sport.
Sports streaming companies like DAZN and Sky have access to various professional leagues in Switzerland including Bundesliga and La Liga. The current providers offer a wide range of options and prices, with many also coming with free trial periods. You can also access sports leagues through dedicated apps or channels directly from the source, such as the NBA or the WWE Network.
Streaming offers Swiss people a new way to get their sports instead of relying on Pay TV services alone. Plus it’s not just the live action itself sports fans seek. Features like split screens, highlights, multiple camera angles and dedicated shows are also selling points. Free trials are also common.
In an increasingly crowded market, more sports and improved features are becoming available all the time.
Mobile phone carriers in Switzerland have embraced the streaming evolution. Providers like Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt offer broadband and television packages that include sports streaming bundles.
Android and iOS devices, Smart TVs from Android, LG, Panasonic, Samsung and more, Amazon Fire TV and Stick and gaming consoles are all options to access some of the content. Providers typically have monthly and annual subscriptions.
Again here it depends on your provider and bandwidth. For example, Chromecast’s video output is 1080p, while it also has 4K available on Chromecast Ultra. Apple TV also has 1080p and 4K options.
If you have an Internet connection speed of around 30Mbps for download and 2.5Mbps for uploading you should be free to access content to most devices without any buffering or other issues. Streaming sport in 4K uses around 7GB/hour while HD uses a little less at around 3GB/hour.
