The Cathay Pacific Visa Signature® card is one of the few cards to allow direct accumulation of Asia Miles. You‘ll earn 2x miles on eligible Cathay Pacific travel and in-flight purchases, 1.5x on dining and international purchases, 1x on domestic purchases, and a 40,000 mile welcome offer after you spend $2,000 in the first 90 days of account opening. This card also has no foreign transaction fees and carries a $95 annual fee.
The reward categories and lack of foreign transaction fees make this an interesting choice for international travels, particularly if Cathay Pacific is a favored airline.
Where the card stumbles is flexibility: The reward rates are good, but limited. But if you travel primarily in areas serviced by Cathay Pacific and its partners, you might find value in this card.
Spending $2,000 within 90 days of your account opening earns you 40,000 bonus miles.
Earn 2x miles on eligible Cathay Pacific flight purchases, and 1.5x miles on dining in the US and abroad. You’ll also earn 1.5x miles on all eligible international purchases, and 1x miles on all other purchases.
Variety of reward categories.
You can redeem your points for flights with Cathay Pacific and its partner airlines, hotels, car rentals, attraction tickets, gift cards and other eligible merchandise.
No foreign transaction fee.
You won’t need to worry about paying foreign transaction fees when using this card abroad.
Visa Signature travel perks.
This card offers the standard array of Visa Signature travel perks, including 24/7 concierge services, emergency card replacement and car rental insurance.
Marco Polo Club.
Upon opening your account you’ll gain entry to the Marco Polo Club along with complimentary Green membership for your first year — a $100 value.
What to watch out for
Your Asia Miles expire 36 months from when you earn them. Gaining additional miles doesn’t reset the expiration date on your existing miles.
This card features a $95 annual fee and doesn’t include a first-year waiver.
Your starting interest will be either 15.99% or 18.99% variable APR, depending on your creditworthiness.
Compare travel credit cards
While the intro bonus and access to the Marco Polo Club offer strong value for the first year, this card soon falls short if you’re not consistently traveling with Cathay Pacific or its partner airlines.
If you’re looking for a credit card with different travel perks, compare your options to find one that best suits your needs.
