USAA vs. Esurance
Trying to decide between USAA and Esurance? It’s time to compare the insurers and find the right one for you.
USAA is a longstanding company that’s been around since 1922. But although it’s one of the largest auto insurers in the United States, it’s only open to military members and their families. Esurance, meanwhile, is open to all consumers.

If you’re neither a member of the military or in the family of someone who is, you won’t be eligible to join USAA. If that’s the case, Esurance may be the default winner in this two-company contest. Keep in mind, however, that it operates only in 40 US states (USAA operates in all 50).
Both companies earn high marks from the Better Business Bureau. However, USAA wins hands-down in claims satisfaction. It nabs a stellar five-out-of-five grade from J.D. Power, while Esurance earns only three out of five.
Both insurers offer a wealth of discounts: good-student, defensive-driver, good-driver, multi-car and more.
