But unless you have a lump sum of money ready when the payment is due, you might be faced with a bill for hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars you can\u2019t pay. Balloon payments are also common on auto leases.<\/p><article class=\"luna-card luna-card--shadow luna-card--alt\"><div class=\"luna-card__block\"><h4>Are balloon payments more affordable?<\/h4><p>Technically no, a balloon loan typically costs the same as a traditional loan. Paying less each month means you\u2019ll have to make up the difference through the large balloon payment at the end of the loan.
