Game of Thrones Season 8, the final gasp of the series, is near and we’ve got the details on where you can watch it.
Finally, we get to see who wins or dies in the game of fancy, pointy chairs. Yes, the concluding chapters of Game of Thrones are within our grasp. They are upon us like fleas on the Free Folk, like Hot Pie on an opportunity to wax lyrical about the finer points of pastry design. You should be amped but also aware of where you can catch this watershed moment in television. Because the situation has changed a little since season 7 aired…
Once upon a time, the only service where you could watch HBO shows released in the US was via HBO Canada. Sadly, your options haven’t expanded much during the two-year hiatus of the series, there’s just been a swapping of hands. Canadians will be able to stream Game of Thrones exclusively on Bell Media’s Crave service. So much for competition. This streaming giant is the only game (of thrones) in town.
That being said, once everything is said, done and Podrick Payne is sitting rightfully on the Iron Throne (our 10,000: 1 bet), you will be able to acquire season 8 via other means. When the series has wrapped you’ll no doubt see the entire GoT catalogue pop up (seasons 1 to 8) for purchase in on the usual services, like Google Play, iTunes, PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store. Good to know but do you really want to wait and risk the spoilers?
Where can I watch Game of Thrones Season 8 legally and how much will it cost?
There’s only one way to go about this. You’ll need to sign up to Crave’s premium service (called “Crave + Movies + HBO”).
Unlike the basic service that’ll set you back CA$9.99 per month, this higher tier effectively doubles the charge to CA$19.99.
Side note: we’d also recommend any newcomers to set up their account early in the month of April, in order to save themselves from a one-minute-to-premiere nightmare. GoT premieres are notorious for crashing websites; don’t assume that the account registration site won’t have fallen over during a mass dash by Johnny Come Latelys.

What channel is Game of Thrones on in Canada?
Game of Thrones no longer airs through HBO Canada. A partnership has been struck with Crave who have now secured the Canadian broadcasting rights to the series.
What time does Game of Thrones air in Canada?
Mercifully, at the exact same time it does in the US which is 9pm EST/8pm PST Sunday night. The first episode broadcasts on April 14, 2019.
Why don’t other services offer Game of Thrones?
Once again, that ironclad exclusive deal has been put in place by HBO. That said, any shrewd Internet user can find their way around this one-horse-race by using a VPN to circumvent the geofences erected by other overseas services like Netflix.
Be warned, though: doing so might not exactly be in line with strict government regulations, so ensure you make a considered decision.
If you do like to live on the edge a little, we can steer you in the right direction when it comes to VPNs. Just know that you’ll be proceeding at your own risk.
