When is Noelle coming out?

Noelle available now on Disney+ as of the platform launch in Canada on November 12th.

What is Noelle About?

This holiday comedy centres on the daughter of the infamous Santa Claus, Noelle, who is full of holiday cheer. She envies her brother Nick, as he is set to take over from their dad and become Santa. But when Nick crumbles under the pressure and goes missing, Noelle has to do everything she can to find her brother and bring him back in time to fulfill his Christmas duties.

Who stars in Noelle?

Anna Kendrick plays the titular character. You might know her from the Pitch Perfect franchise, A Simple Favour, Up in the Air or Into the Woods, among others. Meanwhile, her brother Nick is portrayed by Bill Hader. He currently stars in HBO’s Barry and had roles in movies like It Chapter Two, Toy Story 4, Ralph Breaks the Internet and more.

The cast also includes Shirley MacLaine, Billy Eichner, Julie Hagerty and Ron Funches.

Noelle review: Is it any good?

If you’re a Grinch who likes to boycott Christmas, you should probably stay away from this movie. Otherwise, Anna Kendrick has a pretty good track record when it comes to the roles she picks, so we’re expecting Noelle to be a feel-good, breezy holiday movie the entire family can enjoy.

That being said, Noelle currently has a 45% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is far from ideal, with one critic going as far as calling it a “B-film that wasn’t good enough for theatrical release“.

But here’s the deal: critics tend to rate light, fluffy movies – like holiday flicks – pretty low, so we’re ready to give Noelle the benefit of the doubt. Kendrick is charming enough to keep fans glued to the screen, while the plot itself sounds intriguing, boasting some feminist undertones that might be a nice change of pace in the holiday movie landscape. Plus, the film was written and directed by Marc Lawrence, also responsible for titles like Miss Congeniality, Two Weeks Notice and Music and Lyrics.

All in all, Noelle might not be Oscar-worthy, but it looks like a lot of fun.
