The defending champion Kansas City Chiefs got an almighty scare last weekend, but survived the loss of freak quarterback Patrick Mahomes (concussion) as back-up Chad Henne made some clutch plays in a tense win over the Cleveland Browns. At the time of writing Mahomes was expected to be available for this clash with the Buffalo Bills.

Buffalo, meanwhile, is winning in the playoffs for the first time since 1995. It has morphed from being a defensive-minded team to one of the league’s most lethal offences. Key to that transformation was the acquisition of star wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who immediately struck a rapport with Josh Allen. The strong-armed, mobile quarterback is the league’s most improved player.

Assuming Mahomes is declared fit to play, we can’t go past the Chiefs. The 25-year-old genius has been a perfect fit with coach Andy Reid, an offensive mastermind. Plus versatile tight end Travis Kelce and elite speedster Tyreek Hill are unguardable receivers. Buffalo has had a fairytale season and will put up points but is not quite in the Chiefs’ class yet.
