History of Meebits Collection
Meebits is an NFT collection created by LarvaLabs, the same company that built and popularized CryptoPunks. There exist 20,000 Meebits in total and were released in May 2021 in a public sale. Only 9,000 of the 20,000 Meebits were sold in the original sale, with the remainder able to be claimed by owners of CryptoPunks and AutoGlyphs. Meebits have since become a staple for any serious NFT collector, adding serious value to the portfolio of the owner. Originally sold for 2.5 ETH each, Meebits reached an all-time average price above 5 ETH, more than double the original sale price.
How to buy Meebits on OpenSea
The all-time average price of Meebits is 5.546 ETH ($8,117), so expect to pay around that cost to secure an NFT in the Meebits collection:- Fund your wallet with cryptocurrency to buy your NFT.
Most NFTs on OpenSea are bought and sold using Ether, the native crypto on the Ethereum blockchain. Make sure you have enough ETH in your wallet to cover the cost of the NFT and any related fees, like gas. If you're a bit short, compare ways to buy ETH to reload your wallet. - Find your NFT on OpenSea
OpenSea has hundreds of thousands of NFTs listed, so consider looking through collections to help narrow down the selection. - Transfer ETH to a web3 wallet
MetaMask is a popular web3 wallet option, and our guide on MetaMask has detailed instructions on how to make the transfer. - Buy your Meebits NFT
When you're ready to make your purchase, click the "Buy Now" button on the specific NFT you're interested in. OpenSea will show you the total cost, including fees, and after purchasing be sure to approve the transaction in your MetaMask wallet.

Evaluating Meebits Collection
Each of the collections (CryptoPunks, AutoGlyphs) that LarvaLabs has created has one thing in common, variety. This is something that LarvaLabs has taken advantage of, the fact that no matter who you are, there is a Meebit that you can relate to! LarvaLabs is also pushing the boundaries of collectible NFTs and incorporating new and unique aspects into their design.
- Meebits come with a “voxelized” version of your NFT, eventually able to be rendered in metaverses like The Sandbox or Decentraland.
- Like CryptoPunks, not all Meebits are human. The Meebits that are robots, visitors (aliens), undead (dissected), are rarer and fetch a high price.
- Aside from the type/species, Meebits are otherwise distinguished by their hair, clothing, accessories, and shoes. This ultimately gives a high level of customizability and uniqueness to each Meebit.
- Unsold Meebits were able to be claimed by holders of CryptoPunks. So there is the possibility that holders of Meebits will have additional opportunities for participating in LarvaLabs future NFT projects.
Key Considerations
Before adding a Meebit to your NFT collection, it is important to evaluate the NFT across a variety of metrics.
There are 6 variants that change the body type of the Meebit:
- Body type
- Hair style
- Hair colour
- Beard
- Beard colour
- Tattoo (whether or not the Meebit has a tattoo)
On top of the body type, the Meebit can be wearing 11 different types of clothing:
- Hat
- Hat colour
- Shirt
- Shirt colour
- Overshirt
- Overshirt colour
- Pants
- Pants colour
- Shoes
- Shoe colour
- Jersey number
Lastly, Meebits can have 4 types of accessories:
- Glasses
- Glasses colour
- Necklace
- Earrings
Most Meebits have more than one property or trait. The combinations of rare traits amplify the rarity of the individual Meebit. It is a good idea to dig into the properties of a Meebit before buying one. For example, on OpenSea, you can see a breakdown of the properties of a particular Meebit and its associated rarities.
