Update: Ireland vs Italy has been postponed due to coronavirus.

Wales took out the Grand Slam in 2019 after finishing the Six Nations undefeated, ending the season well ahead of England and Ireland. Italy took out the wooden spoon for the fourth consecutive year.

After losing the World Cup final to South Africa, England have been installed as Six Nations favourites under their Australian coach Eddie Jones. Ireland are on the next rung according to bookmakers ahead of France and Wales.

The Six Nations produces some of the most exciting competition in world rugby. This is your complete guide to the 2020 edition.

What is the Six Nations?

What was once known as the Five Nations tournament became the Six Nations when Italy joined the ranks in 2000. The six countries that now make up the competition are England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and Italy.

The tournament was first held in 1883 and originally involved just England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. There have been a number of shared titles, so overall title-holders is a little subjective. The Welsh have 39 total wins, made up of 27 outright and 12 shared. England have the most outright wins with 28, but 38 overall including shared tournament wins.

Who will win the Six Nations?

Italy are far and away the also-rans of this tournament, while Scotland aren’t that far ahead of them. While France are competitive, since 2011 only England, Wales and Ireland have won the tournament. Wales might be the defending champions, but we find it hard to go past an England side bouncing back hard from that World Cup defeat and taking all before them in the 2020 Six Nations Championship.
