After a one-off rescheduled Sunderland vs Millwall fixture last weekend, all 24 teams in the EFL Championship are back on the playing field after the competition had a month-long break due to the FIFA World Cup. Several Canadian players are with sides in the competition and will be heading back from Qatar to be with their clubs again.
Returning after the break, Burnley sit on top of the Championship table. They’re obviously hoping to make their stay in the EFL a short one after being relegated from the English Premier League last season. The other 2 sides who came down from the Premier League, Watford and Norwich City, are currently sitting 4th and 5th, respectively. Sheffield United are in 2nd, just ahead of 3rd-place Blackburn Rovers in the battle for the other automatic promotion spot.
The 2022/23 competition is looking to be tightly contested, with only 12 points separating the 18 teams currently outside of the top 6 as play resumes. A few wins or losses for any side could see them jump or fall multiple places on the table.
