How to stream CBS All Access without a smart TV

Not having a smart TV doesn't mean you have to miss out on watching CBS All Access.

CBS All Access comes not only with an appealing content library, but with great device compatibility as well. The platform works on a wide array of devices, so there’s a good chance you’ll be able to watch your favourite shows in style. While the app is available on selected smart TVs, you don’t need to own one to be able to stream content on the big screen.

Watch with Apple TV

CBS All Access is compatible with Apple TV second generation and above, so you can enjoy watching shows even if you have an older version of the streaming device. If you have an Apple TV fourth generation or 4K, open the App Store and search for CBS All Access. Select the app then select “Get”. After that, log in with your credentials and you’re good to go.

On Apple TV third generation or earlier, the CBS All Access channel is automatically loaded during software updates. To make sure you have the latest version, go to “Settings” then “System”. After this, select “Software Updates” and “Update Software”. If there’s an update, download and install it.

Watch with Amazon Fire TV

To add the CBS All Access app to your Fire TV, select “Search” from the device’s main menu. Then search for the app and select it from Apps & Games in the search results. All that’s left is to download it. Once that’s done, click on any episode, live TV (if available) or “Settings” and then “Sign In/Sign Up”. Follow the directions provided to activate your Fire TV. Please note that this step will require a web browser.

Watch with Chromecast

To watch CBS All Access with Chromecast, first make sure that your gadget is properly set up. Next, download the Google Home app to your mobile device. Then, turn on the CBS All Access app from your smartphone or tablet and select the “Cast” icon to watch shows on the big screen. You can also cast from a laptop – the procedure is similar, but you’ll need to use the Chrome browser. Simply hit the “Cast” icon when you want to cast a video to your TV.

Watch with Roku

To add CBS All Access to your Roku player, go to the Roku home screen. Then, select “Streaming Channels” to navigate to the Roku Channel Store. Go to “Movies & TV”, find CBS All Access and then select “Add channel”.

Watch with a gaming console (Xbox One, PS4)

Besides streaming media players, CBS All Access is also compatible with the Xbox One and PS4 gaming consoles. To add the app to your Xbox, go to “Store – Apps – CBS All Access” and select “Get it free”. For PS4, go to “Library”, select the app and hit “Download”. After that, log in with your credentials and you’ll be up and running in no time.

Connect your laptop/tablet directly to your TV

Don’t own any of the above? Do it the old-fashioned way by connecting your tablet or laptop directly to the TV using an HDMI cable. It may not be the most elegant solution, but it does the trick. Then, switch your television to HDMI mode, and you should see the tablet or laptop screen mirror on your TV.

If all else fails, choose another streaming service

There’s no shortage of streaming services to choose from – so if your preferred device isn’t listed above, you might want to direct your attention elsewhere. Here are some other platforms you might be interested in:
