How to set up and watch CBS All Access on Apple TV
Apple TV is a great way to watch your favourite shows on the big screen.
Ever since launch, CBS All Access has managed to get bigger and better, both by expanding its content library with intriguing original productions and by adding more devices to its compatibility list. Consequently, you access the platform from numerous devices, including smart TVs, gaming consoles and streaming media players.
Apple TV is no exception. CBS All Access works on all Apple TV devices, so you can stream content even if you don’t have the latest model. We cover the basics on how to set up and browse the service with Apple TV below.
How to connect your Apple TV to CBS All Access
Adding CBS All Access to your Apple TV is easy. If you have an Apple TV 4th generation or 4K, simply go to the App Store and search for the app. Once you’ve located it, select it and hit “Get”. Then, log in with your CBS All Access credentials and start streaming.
On Apple 3rd generation and earlier, the CBS All Access channel is automatically loaded during software updates. You should make sure you have the latest version by going to Settings then System. Select “Software Updates” and then “Update Software”. If you see an update available, download and install it.
About Apple TV
Apple TV is a device you connect to your TV and use to stream content from a variety of apps. The price for a standard Apple TV 4th generation is $149. You can purchase one directly from Apple or from select retailers.
How to set up Apple TV (4th gen)
- First, connect your Apple TV to your television and power and wait for your Apple TV to show the set-up screen.
- Then, click the touch surface of your Apple TV remote to connect it to your new Apple TV.
- Next, follow the on-screen prompts to configure the settings of your Apple TV.
Optionally, you can connect other iOS devices by following the on-screen steps as well. Once configuration is completed, your device will be good to go.
What’s the resolution for CBS All Access on Apple TV?
If your broadband is fast enough, you should be able to stream shows from the CBS All Access library in HD. With Live TV, the quality may vary based on your Internet connection and device capabilities.
Subtitles on Apple TV
If you have an Apple TV 3rd generation or earlier, you can enable closed captioning by holding down the Select button on your remote for three seconds to reveal the Subtitles tab. Then select the option that you want to use.
For Apple 4th generation and later, swipe down on your remote’s Touch surface to reveal the Info panel. Then, swipe right to see the Subtitles panel and swipe down to select the option that you want to use.
Alternatively, users can also turn on closed captions directly from the CBS All Access Live TV player by selecting the CC button on the video screen.
