How can you tell if something is Canadian made?

The easiest way to tell is to check out the label for a “Made in” line. This works if you’re shopping in-person, but if you’re buying online, you can still look out for these details either in the product description or in the photos.

Still can’t find any info? Then check out the “About” section on the brand’s website, which may provide you with further direction or contact its customer service directly for clarification.

Why buy Canadian made gifts?

There’s something special about receiving a gift and knowing that it was made by your fellow countryman. Products made in Canada fuel our economy, and by buying them, you’ll support small businesses and keep Canadians employed.

There’s also the environmental side of things. Many Canadian made gifts use Canadian materials, such as birch wood. This means less carbon is used to transport them compared with importing them from overseas. Just be mindful of how these materials were obtained to ensure that they’re sustainably sourced.

Are Canadian made gifts more expensive?

They don’t have to be. Gifts come in all forms and prices, and if you shop around, you can often discover locally made items to suit your budget.

If you find that the gift you’re eyeing is more expensive than its international counterpart, keep in mind that its quality may be better. For example, many Canadian made beauty brands are vegan, organic and cruelty-free which could make all the difference.
