There are currently 10.1 million DoorDash stocks held short by investors – that's known as DoorDash's "short interest". This figure is 7.8% down from 11.0 million last month.
There are a few different ways that this level of interest in shorting DoorDash stocks can be evaluated.
DoorDash's "short interest ratio" (SIR) is the quantity of DoorDash stocks currently shorted divided by the average quantity of DoorDash stocks traded daily (recently around 3.0 million). DoorDash's SIR currently stands at 3.33. In other words for every 100,000 DoorDash stocks traded daily on the market, roughly 3330 stocks are currently held short.
However DoorDash's short interest can also be evaluated against the total number of DoorDash stocks, or, against the total number of tradable DoorDash stocks (the shares that aren't held by "insiders" or major long-term shareholders – also known as the "float"). In this case DoorDash's short interest could be expressed as 0.03% of the outstanding stocks (for every 100,000 DoorDash stocks in existence, roughly 30 stocks are currently held short) or 0.0515% of the tradable stocks (for every 100,000 tradable DoorDash stocks, roughly 52 stocks are currently held short).
Such a low SIR usually points to an optimistic outlook for the stock price, with fewer people currently willing to bet against DoorDash.
