How many Black Friday finds can you fit in your car?
You can pack a sedan with over 6,000 Amazon Echos, if you use the backseat.
In 2018, Black Friday and Cyber Monday shoppers were expected to spend around $90 billion on sales, according to a survey from finder.com. And about three-fourths of shoppers included a brick-and-mortar store in their shopping frenzy, according to the National Retail Federation.
But all that money spent means shoppers need enough space to stash their finds while scurrying to the next deal. Our research shows the most sought-after deals should fit in your car, but you might need extra backseat or floor space if you’re making a big haul.
How much can I fit in my car on Black Friday?
Let’s say you own a sedan — like the ubiquitous Toyota Camry — you’ll get about 15 cubic feet of space in the trunk. But you can amp up your shopping and fill up to 115 cubic feet by also using empty backseat space.
If you own a popular SUV like the Ford Escape, you could get up to 134 cubic feet. That’s an extra 19 cubic feet of space over the sedan, enough room to add 1,000 more Amazon Echos.

Black Friday in-store shopping tips
Get the most deals on Black Friday by maximizing your time and your car’s space with these tips:
- Plan ahead and prioritize. Most stores advertise their best deals online or in their store ads. Plan to snag deals that matter most to you, or hit up doorbuster deals first.
- Remember where you parked. Snap a photo of the row you parked at, so you don’t forget during your shopping frenzy.
- Miss the biggest crowds. Avoid the thick of the throng by shopping during off times. Try shopping on Thanksgiving day, early Saturday morning, during your lunch break Monday or avoid them all together by shopping online.
- Pick stores close together. If you need items from several stores, look for areas where those stores are closest together. Or find out if you can do all your shopping at one big store or mall instead.
- Pack the big stuff first. When packing your car, figure out how to fit the biggest items like your TV or Instant Pot first. Then, you can fill the empty spaces with your smaller Black Friday finds.
How we calculated car space for Black Friday shopping
To find out how many Black Friday deals fit, we found the trunk and backseat space dimensions for the popular Toyota Camry sedan and Ford Escape SUV. We used dimensions straight from the manufacturers. Then, we added the trunk and backseat dimensions together to get the total cubic feet available, assuming no passengers.
Next, we found top items that customers bought on Black Friday based on reports from eBay and BlackFriday.com. We used the information about the product’s sizes while inside their packages or boxes to calculate each item’s total cubic feet.
Finally, we divided the total cargo space by each product’s size to get the number of products that will fit in the car. This calculation assumes that shoppers will fill the entire car. However, doing this would leave no room for the driver’s visibility. For that reason, finder.com does not recommend drivers fill up the entire space in their cars.
