Black Friday Price Matching Policies

Get the most bang for your buck this Black Friday with price matching

Most stores will be slashing prices left and right as soon as Thanksgiving Thursday and Black Friday roll around. But with so many doorbuster deals and sales, you might be a bit puzzled as to where to find the best deal on your big purchases.

This is where price matching can come in handy. Some retailers and online stores will match, or even beat competitors’ pricing if you find a better deal elsewhere. The trick is knowing which stores allow for Black Friday price matching and which don’t. To help you stay in the know, we’ve put together this list.

Walmart price matching during Black Friday — NO

Normally, Walmart has a fairly reasonable price matching policy, with one huge exception — it won’t price match for prices shown from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. This means if you’re looking for a specific item during the Black Friday shopping rush, do a little research beforehand to see if Walmart has the lowest advertised price on that item. Otherwise, you might be out of luck at checkout.

During other times of the year, Walmart will price match if a select group of 30 online stores has a better price. A few of the biggest names on this list include,,,,, and

Target price matching during Black Friday — NO

Like Walmart, Target isn’t budging on its price matching exclusions during Black Friday. In fact, Target won’t match competitor prices for the entire week after Thanksgiving Day.

The rest of the year though, Target’s price matching policy is actually pretty great. The retail giant will price match to any other retailer located within a 25-mile radius, as well as 30 online stores, including You can even use manufacturer’s coupons from the Cartwheel app on top of your price match at checkout.

Best Buy price matching during Black Friday — NO

Best Buy is another no-go when it comes to Black Friday price matching. Unlike Target, Best Buy only blacks out its price matching policy from Thanksgiving Day to Cyber Monday, so you can still take advantage of this hack for the rest of the week.

Normally, Best Buy will price match local retailers up to a 25-mile radius away, as well as its online stores. An additional seven online stores are also on Best Buy’s price matching list:

Toys “R” Us price matching during Black Friday — NO

Toys “R” Us doesn’t usually price match during Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Though this year, the toy giant is trying something new called the Price Match Promise. Now through Christmas Eve (December 24th), except for Black Friday, any time you price match at Toys “R” Us, the company will donate $1 to Toys for Tots, up to $1 million.

Like most price matching policies, there are a few terms and exclusions:

  • Price matching applies to in-store purchases only.
  • The items in question must be identical. The only acceptable difference is variations in color.
  • You’ll need to show the full original advertisement for the competitor’s price, including valid dates.
  • You can request a price match up to 14 days after your purchase, with a valid receipt.
  • Price matching is limited to two of the same item.
  • Price matching occurs after any coupons or other savings are applied to your total.

Kohl’s price matching during Black Friday — YES

Kohl’s will match a lower price you find at a competitor’s store, but won’t match prices you find elsewhere online, including at To get your price match, bring a copy of the original ad with the competitor’s pricing and valid dates, as well as a description of the item. It will need to be identical to the one in Kohl’s stores.

There are a few catches:

  • Promotional offers and coupons cannot be applied to price matched items.
  • Some brands are excluded from the Kohl’s price matching policy. These include Adidas, American Girl, Columbia, Dyson, Levi’s, Nike, Timberland, Under Armour and more.

On the plus side, you’ll still be able to earn Kohl’s Cash and Yes2You Rewards on price matched items.

JCPenney price matching during Black Friday — YES

At JCPenney, you can always price match, even on Black Friday. In fact, JCPenney will do one better than match a lower competitor price — it’ll beat the price by 5%.

All you have to do is bring in the ad for an identical item sold by JCPenney within 14 days of your purchase to claim your savings. If you purchased an item online and found it for less somewhere else, call Customer Care at 800-322-1189.

There are just a few exceptions to JCP’s price matching policy:

  • Sephora, salon, optical, portrait, in-home custom window treatments and services do not apply for price matching.
  • JCP will match prices on major appliances, TVs and TV accessories, but you won’t get the 5% extra.
  • The extra 5% does not apply to prices matched between JCPenney store and
  • Purchases in Alaska and Puerto Rico are excluded.

Macy’s price matching during Black Friday — YES

Macy’s doesn’t explicitly say whether or not they’ll honor price matching on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but the company also doesn’t say that it won’t. So our best guess is that you should be able to price match during your holiday shopping, or at the very least, it can’t hurt to ask.

That said, Macy’s is a bit stingy with its price matching policy. It’ll only match the prices of these select retailers:

  • Belk
  • Bloomingdale’s
  • Bon Ton
  • Crate and Barrel
  • Dillard’s
  • Kohl’s
  • JCPenney
  • Lord and Taylor
  • Neiman Marcus
  • Nordstrom
  • Saks Fifth Avenue
  • Sears
  • Sur La Table
  • Williams Sonoma

Newegg price matching during Black Friday — NO

Newegg’s price matching policy is a little different from most, but you won’t have to worry about it if you’re shopping during Black Friday weekend, into Cyber Monday because Newegg doesn’t price match during these retail holidays.

If you want to take advantage of its price matching system the rest of the year, look for the “price match” egg next to an item, indicating it’s eligible for the price match guarantee. Note that price match requests will be honored in the form of store credit at

Lowe’s price matching during Black Friday — YES

Lowe’s is another company that hasn’t come right out and said that price matching is a thing on Black Friday, but it also has very few exclusions, so we’re guessing that you can price match away this holiday season.

Here’s how Lowe’s price matching works:

  • Bring in the competitor’s ad from a local store or online, and Lowe’s will match the price.
  • Some brands, installation labor, closeout, discontinued, clearance, refurbished, used or damaged items don’t apply.
  • Price match limited to “reasonable” quantities.

Home Depot price matching during Black Friday — YES

Home Depot has a very similar price matching policy to Lowe’s, with one big difference — Home Depot will beat the competitor’s price by 10%.

There are a few exclusions, though:

  • The 10% extra doesn’t apply to online items.
  • Professional services, labor costs and installation fees aren’t eligible.
  • Rebates, free offers or bundle offers don’t count towards price matching.

eBay price matching during Black Friday — YES

Not only will eBay agree to price match other major retailers and even online giant Amazon, but the company is heavily encouraging Black Friday and Cyber Monday price matching. Recently, eBay announced that it will match any prices that are lower than its “Don’t Wait for Black Friday” sale prices, which are available to snatch up right now.

The catch is that these pre-Black-Friday prices won’t be around for long, so you’ll need to get them while you can. New deals will be available every day and are expected to continue right through Cyber Monday, so keep checking its site for the latest bargains. You could save up to 50%, price get free delivery and eBay’s Price Match Guarantee if you still find a better deal somewhere else.

Which retailers will price match Amazon?

Amazon is one of the biggest online competitors for most major retailers, so Black Friday shoppers should definitely compare pricing with Amazon before making a big purchase. However, not all retailers will price match to, and almost no retailers will price match to third-party sellers on Amazon.

While not all stores explicitly say whether or not Amazon is considered a “major competitor” to which its price matching policy applies, these are the biggest stores that we know for sure will price match the online giant:

  • Babies “R” Us
  • Bed Bath & Beyond
  • Best Buy
  • Fry’s Electronics
  • Home Depot
  • JCPenney
  • JoAnn Fabrics
  • Lowe’s
