What to consider when buying a Nintendo Switch

Enhanced controller

The Joy-Cons that come with the Nintendo Switch are decent for on-the-go gaming, but if you’re planning to play your Switch on your TV, you may want to pick up a separate Pro controller. The Nintendo Switch Pro controller takes more than a few cues from the ever-popular Xbox 360 gamepad, ditching the odd button-and-stick layout of the Joy-Cons in favor of Microsoft’s more comfortable setup.

Extra storage

Nintendo Switch games are usually fairly small, but it won’t take long to fill up the console’s 32GB of storage. Fortunately, it’s easy to expand that storage with a microSD card. The Switch supports cards up to 2TB.

MicroSD cards are quite cheap, so it’s worth investing in a relatively large one to store your saves and games downloaded from the Nintendo eShop.

The right Switch case can double as protection for your console and storage for games, headphones and Joy-Cons. Cases come in a variety of sizes, materials and price points. For help choosing the best fit for you, read our buying guide for popular Nintendo Switch cases.
