Bifrost is a multichain middleware platform that connects dApps with multiple blockchain protocols. Choosing a protocol to build on can be difficult for dApp developers, as there are so many features to choose from.
Each blockchain boasts native pros and cons, which is why relying on one can be seen as risky. If any problems occur with a blockchain, dApp developers must then try to tackle the problem. Bifrost attempts to solve this problem by allowing developers to combine the best features of multiple blockchain protocols so that an optimal blockchain can be put to use. Bifrost bridges dApps and blockchain protocols and, therefore, reduces the reliance risk on one.
According to project’s website, dApp developers can combine the features of both public and private blockchains to suit their needs and, therefore utilise the advantages of both. A private blockchain can be customised by developers, which can lead to enhanced scalability. On the other hand, public blockchains offer developers safety and decentralisation. Bifrost splits the dApp’s code into private and public blockchains, combining the features of both to create a native smart contract. Both private and public components operate together through the protocol’s native “linkers” technology. This allows dApp developers to choose a combination of any private and public blockchains that are currently available within the cryptocurrency industry. If a type of blockchain is then preferred over another Bifrost allows developers to change. BFC is the native token that forms the basis of the Bifrost economy. Any dApp utilising the Bifrost multi-chain protocol can utilise BFC within its economy. Alternatively, each dApp can generate its own native token based on the blockchains being implemented.
