How to choose cashback business credit cards

When you look for a cashback credit card for your business, consider the following:

  • Does your business spend a lot of money on any particular category? If you find that your business spends a large amount of money in a certain area, such as office supplies or travel, you’ll want a cashback card that offers greater cashback on those purchases. Likewise, if your business spends in a lot of different areas, a flat rate cashback business card might offer the most value.
  • How much does your business spend annually? Your annual spending can play a big role in which cashback card is best for you. Some cashback business cards have spending caps on certain categories before they revert to 1% back. Others might reward you for reaching a certain spending threshold in a given year. You can check these caps and any other features related to your spending in the card’s terms and conditions or Schumer Box.
  • Does your business need an intro APR period? If you need to make a large number of purchases for your business, an intro purchase APR period could prove useful. This can give your business several months of interest-free time to pay off your balance. And if you already have a large balance on another card, an intro balance transfer APR can let you move that balance over to a new card and save big on interest.
  • Is there an annual fee? Higher end cashback credit cards may carry annual fees. These fees can even extend to additional employee cards, depending on the issuer.

How to get the most out of a cashback business credit card

Maximizing the value of your cashback business credit card comes down to planning:

  • Apply for a card with the biggest earning rate for your business. Before applying for a business cashback card, examine your business spending and needs. If possible, choose a card with high rewards on where you spend most.
  • Meet your caps. If you have a cashback card with spending caps, do your best to maximize that value. That means spending at least up to the cap. If you find that your business spends well beyond that cap, you might want to look for a card with a larger (or no) spending cap.
  • Hit your signup bonus. This should be pretty easy on a business card. Make sure you hit the spending requirements for your card’s signup bonus within the allotted time period, which is usually about three months.
  • The more cards the merrier. Typically, employee cards are shared across one account and benefit from the same earning rates. Handing out a few employee cards can ensure that most business expenses are leading to cashback where eligible. Just remember that you only get one signup bonus per account.

Alternatives to cashback business cards

If you’re interested in earning on your business purchases but want a little more flexibility than cash back, consider a rewards business card. Many reward business cards let you redeem your points on a variety of items, including gift cards or statement credits. If you travel a frequently for work, a business travel card could also prove a valuable choice, letting your earn flights or hotel stays with your purchases.
