How does Uber Eats compare to Waitr?

Waitr started in nearby Lake Charles in 2014 and spread to Baton Rouge in 2016. It has 57 restaurants in Lake Charles and another 60 in Lafayette. Waitr does not charge a delivery fee, but does have a $4.99 minimum for delivery. Waitr’s Baton Rouge market has reached 280 restaurants by May of 2017. This makes it Waitr’s largest market to date, likely a result of the proximity of Louisiana State University.

What does the “busy area” fee mean for Uber Eats in Baton Rouge?

The fee is based on how many people are using the service versus how many delivery drivers are currently active at one time. When the number of orders and the number of available delivery drivers equals out in a given area, the fee will disappear.

The “busy area” fee is subject to change.

For instance, when LSU’s football team is playing a road game on a Saturday evening, the number of people watching from home on TV will be enormous. This will drive up the number of Uber Eats orders during the game and cause a “busy area” fee.
