Expert review

Amerisleep could be the mattress for you if you’re looking for soft. Choose from five unique beds with eco-friendly manufacturing. Its excellent customer service might sweeten the deal.

We recommend Amerisleep’s AS3 mattress as a great option for couples, thanks to its middle-of-the-road firmness — a compromise for couples with different preferences. The brand’s AS2 model is a popular pick to ease back pain, with a firm and supportive option. But if it’s softness you’re after, the AS5 will suit you just right.

With Amerisleep, you can choose between a memory foam or hybrid mattress. It rates the level of support from one to five, with one being the firmest and five being the softest.

Memory foam

Memory foam mattresses mold to your body when you lay down, then bounce back when you get up, which is thought to help alleviate joint pain. Amerisleep uses plant-based memory foam, which tends to be more breathable than synthetic, or gel-infused, memory foam.

Amerisleep’s hybrid mattresses have two inches of memory foam supported by a core of eight-inch-tall coil springs, for better buoyancy and bounciness.

  • Tip: Hybrids can be a good choice for warm sleepers, because the coils promote air flow beneath the top layer of memory foam.

Features of an Amerisleep mattress

Amerisleep mattresses are made of open-cell memory foam to keep you cool and provide just the right amount of responsiveness. These mattresses are made using a clean trademarked process called Variable Pressure Foaming, which claims to avoid harmful agents.

Do I need a box spring?

No. Amerisleep doesn’t recommend a box spring, because its memory foam is most durable on a solid flat surface.

If you prefer a box spring, the company suggests placing a ¾-inch piece of plywood in between your box spring and the new mattress to satisfy its warranty requirements.

How many years does an Amerisleep mattress last?

According to Amerisleep’s Early Bird blog, the average foam mattress is designed to last anywhere from five to 10 years. Each mattress comes with a 20-year warranty, but it’s broken up into two 10-year periods. The first 10 years is a full replacement warranty. The second 10 years is a prorated warranty, whereby you’re responsible for 50% of the cost of a new mattress, plus shipping costs.

Do I need to rotate or flip my Amerisleep mattress?

No —memory foam doesn’t need to be flipped or rotated, since it’s designed to avoid sagging where you sleep.

Pros and cons of Amerisleep

Amerisleep mattresses are made in the US, and it’s been in the biz since 2010. While reviews around the web speak highly of its customer service team, folks who prefer to test in-person before buying may be frustrated by the fact that it only has retail stores in four states.

Before buying an Amerisleep mattress, weigh the benefits and drawbacks:

  • Five firmness options. Choose a level that’s right for your sleeping position and preferences.
  • Eco-friendly. Amerisleep’s manufacturing process produces zero emissions and avoids harmful agents.
  • 100-night trial. Test it without making a long-term commitment.

  • Only mattresses are returnable. If you buy a pillow, sheets, mattress protector or foundation, it’s yours for good.
  • No financing available. These mattresses don’t come cheap, and but it doesn’t offer payment plans, so you’ll need to fund the purchase in full upfront.

Is Amerisleep better than Leesa?

Amerisleep and Leesa both offer foam mattresses at a similar price point. But Amerisleep offers five options, some at higher prices compared with Leesa’s single foam bed. Both are made in the US and offer 100-night risk-free trials.

Amerisleep may be the better option if you’re looking for a specific firmness level. Leesa could be right for you if you’re looking for financing options and more modest pricing.

Still can’t decide? Read our Leesa review for more information, or compare a few more mattress brands to find the bed of your dreams.
