The basics

If you often shop at and want to build your credit and earn cash back, consider the Amazon Prime Store Card Credit Builder. It’s a secured card that helps you save money on interest with 0% financing options for purchases over $149. You can pay for your purchases over time, but you must pay in full before the promotional period expires or you’ll end up paying high interest.

Card benefits

  • Cash back.
Earn 5% cash back on all purchases. This is a great benefit rarely offered by a secured card.
  • Promotional financing.
Buy now and pay later for items over $149 purchased on, and get a 0% promo APR if you pay in full before the promotional period expires. The length of your special financing period will vary based on purchase amount.
  • Gift card.
Get a $40 gift card upon account opening, courtesy of Amazon.
  • Build credit.
Get your card activity reported to all three major credit bureaus by Amazon. Amazon will report to Experian, Equifax and TransUnion, which can help you build credit if you use your card responsibly.
  • Upgrade to an unsecured card.
Get your activity reviewed starting from your first seven months by Synchrony Bank, the issuer of this card. If you qualify, you can upgrade to an unsecured card and your deposit will be returned to you.
  • No annual fee.
Build your credit and enjoy promotional financing options on your Amazon purchases without paying an annual fee.

What to watch out for

  • Can’t combine perks.
You can’t earn cash back and use promotional financing options on the same purchase. You will have to choose one of the two.
  • Must be paid in full.
You must pay your balance in full before the promotional period ends. Otherwise, you’ll pay interest from the date you made the purchase.
  • Secured card.
You need to deposit $100 to $1,000 to act as your credit line. However, this sum is refundable in case you upgrade to an unsecured card or if you decide to close the account with no outstanding debt.
  • Limited use.
You can only use the card for purchases.
  • High APR.
The standard APR is 28.24% variable. This applies if your special financing period passes or if you make a purchase that doesn’t qualify for it.

How do I use the promotional financing?

Amazon gives you the option to buy now and pay later. In this case, you won’t accrue interest if you pay your purchase in full before the period expires. You can use two financing options:

  • Special financing.
This option requires you to make at least the minimum payment each month, but the size of your payment can vary. Depending on your purchase, you can get:
    • 6 months financing for purchases of $149 or more.
    • 12 months financing for purchases of $599 or more.
    • 24 months financing for purchases of $799 or more.
  • Equal pay financing.
For purchases of $300 or more, you can get 12 months to pay it off. However, you need to make equal monthly payments.
