What disability coverage does Allstate offer?

Allstate short- and long-term disability pays up to 60% of your gross salary as a weekly or monthly benefit, minus any income you receive from another disability benefit or group insurance while on leave. Your policy may include the following benefits:

  • Total disability.When you are unable to work, you get a monthly benefit of up to 60% of your income, which begins after a waiting period.
  • Partial disability. Provides 50% of your monthly benefit after one month of total disability, for up to three months of partial disability.
  • Pregnancy. After you’ve had the policy for 10 months, this provides a monthly benefit if you are disabled due to your pregnancy.
  • Recurrent disability. Pays your benefit if you are disabled due to the same or a related cause within six months without a new waiting period or maximum benefit period.
  • Survivor benefits.Provides a lump sum payment to an eligible survivor if you die while receiving or were entitled to receive long-term disability payments under the plan.
  • Waiver of premiums.After 90 days of receiving your monthly benefits, Allstate pays your premiums until your benefits expire.
  • Organ donor benefit. Pays your monthly benefit while you recover from a living organ donation surgery.

What add-ons are available?

Allstate allows employers to customize your disability policy using the following riders:

  • On-the-job accident disability. Pays 50% of your monthly benefit even when you receive worker’s compensation or state disability benefits.
  • Return of premium rider.Returns your premiums if you are laid off within six months of the start of your coverage.
  • Doula services rider. Provides a one-time payment of $250 to help cover doula or midwife expenses during pregnancy and childbirth.
  • Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) rider.Provides 25% of your monthly benefit, up to $500, when you are out on FMLA leave.
  • Increasing benefit period. Automatically increases your benefit period by up to one month every year up to six years.
