- Annual fee: Waived for the first year.
The first year you have this card, you won’t pay an annual fee. Starting the second year, you’ll pay an annual fee of $59.
- Rewards: Up to 3% cash back.
The first year you have this card, you’ll earn 3% cash back on all purchases. After that, you’ll earn 2.5% cash back on all purchases. This is an excellent rate — most flat-rate rewards cards offer a 1.5%. However, many of these cards don’t have annual fees, while the Alliant Cashback Visa® Signature Credit Card does. Consider your spending to see if you’ll earn enough cash back to make the card’s annual fee worth it.
- Relatively low APR.
Depending on your credit, you’ll qualify for a purchase and balance transfer APR of 12.49% to 15.49% variable. These are relatively low rates compared to the average credit card APR of around 16%.

What to watch out for
- Annual fee: $59.
Many flat-rate cashback cards don’t have annual fees. Then again, the Alliant Cashback Visa® Signature Credit Card offers a much better 2.5% to 3% cashback rate. Whether the card is worth paying for depends on how much cash back you think you’ll earn.
- Penalty APR.
You’ll pay 25.49% variable penalty APR to all of your balances if you make a late or returned payment. This rate applies until you make six consecutive on-time payments of at least the minimum amount due.
You’ll pay a 3% fee of the transaction for each balance transfer. For each cash advance, you’ll pay $10 or 3% of the transaction, whichever is greater. For each late or returned payment, you’ll pay a fee of up to $27.
Consider other cards if …
- You don’t want to pay an annual fee.
There are plenty of no-annual-fee cards that offer flat-rate cash back. The Citi® Double Cash Card and Chase Freedom Unlimited® are two trusty options.
- You want tiered rewards.
The Alliant Cashback Visa® Signature Credit Card‘s rewards might be tough to beat, but you may earn more rewards if your spending is heavily concentrated in certain categories. If that’s the case, look for a card that offers more cash back, points or miles for your preferred categories. The Bank of America® Cash Rewards credit card is a great choice for everyday purchases. If you’re a foodie, the Savor® Rewards from Capital One® or Uber Visa Card might be more your style. For travel, you might like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or the high-class The Platinum Card® from American Express.
- You don’t spend more than $11,800 a year.
If you spend less than this, you’ll earn less cash back than you would with the Citi® Double Cash Card. That’s because the Alliant Cashback Visa® Signature Credit Card‘s annual fee would effectively reduce your earnings.
The math behind the $11,800 cutoff
Here’s the effective cash back you’d earn from the Alliant Cashback Visa® Signature Credit Card, after your first card year, and the Citi® Double Cash Card based on $11,800 in spending:
|Cash back on $11,800 of spending||Annual fee||Effective cash back|
|Alliant Cashback Visa® Signature Credit Card||$295||$59||$236|
|Citi® Double Cash Card||$236, assuming you pay off your purchases||$0||$236|
Now, let’s say you spend $15,000 a year. Here’s the effective cash back you’d earn from both cards:
|Cash back on $20,000 of spending||Annual fee||Effective cash back|
|Alliant Cashback Visa® Signature Credit Card||$500||$59||$441|
|Citi® Double Cash Card||$400, assuming you pay off your purchases||$0||$400|
Even with its incredible cashback rate, the Alliant Cashback Visa® Signature Credit Card will eat into your rewards with its annual fee. If you spend more than $11,800 a year on your card, the Alliant Cashback Visa® Signature Credit Card could easily be the right choice. Otherwise, consider another option, such as the Citi® Double Cash Card.
